DEPI: TOOL for planning and verification

Created as a support tool in SCMT( Security System) it can be used at every phase of the signalling plant from the feasibility stage to maintenance.
DEPI is an autocad application written in VisualB, Fortran and a data base type AccessMS (e). It is based primarily on two documents:

  • Plant Plan

  • Schematic Plan

The tool is useful in:

  • Identifying routes and listing equipment on each route

  • Calculating the real distance between wayside equipment

  • Identifying possible routes as a support for the design systems IS-ATP/ATC

  • Verifying the distances and gradients in the completed project (in the case of SCMT: chart of distances, chart of gradients, telegrammes)

DELFI: TOOL for planning and verification

This tool can be used as support in design/verification/costing and maintenance of wayside signaling and TLC equipment at every phase of the project.
DELFI is an Autocad application written in Visual B, Fortran and a database type AccessMS and is based principally on two documents:

  • Equipment plan

  • Cable plan

The tool develops the following functions:

  • - Support in the design of the cable duct system using defined graphic elements for the automatic recognition both of cable ducts and of technological devices.

  • - Support in checking the integration of new systems in the infrastructure: in measuring canal duct tracts, the size and relative depth of manholes, the size of cable sections .

  • - Support for calculating and costing the equipment necessary for the project.

  • - Support in overseeing the maintenance of the infrastucture, creating a complete database of the wayside equipment..

Train Model

This tool facilitates:

  • Analysis of the functionality of the line

  • Verification of the potentiality of the line

  • Analysis of the dangers

  • Development of operational programmes

  • Optimisation of circulation

The Train Breaking Performance model simulates the action of braking or acceleration according to a model defined by the user. The model evaluates the physical/mechanical characteristics of the line and of the train with regard to the speed, position, power and acceleration of the train while braking. The model allows for the train to be considered not as a material point but creates the simulation considering a series of material points with distinct characteristics, distributing them spatially along the line.

The Train in Movement model also allows for the calculation of the instantaneous power and energy necessary to create simulated movement.


This tool is divided into two documents:

  • Data bases

  • Graphic base

The data base is an autocad application written in VBA and data base type AccessMS and facilitates the control of individual sites by:

  • Describing the sites in terms of data and with reference to the companies employed

  • Listing for each site: the vehicles and machinery, the type of activity and work, risks inherent to the site, risks posed by the site to trains, and by trains to the site.
  • Describing collective mitigation measures
  • Describing active mitigation measures
  • Analysing the risks in the case of superimposed sites


Intelligent Management of Signalling Data - This tool allows for the transformation of existing paper documentation, related to the system planning, into interactive documents, easy to manage, up-date and reproduce.
The final documentation is made up of autocad drawings containing easily edited squares/blocks, allowing for the elaboration of verification tests and the automatic production of a series of documents.
The instruments used in the project are:

  • Autocad for the management of the blocks

  • VBA for autocad for the extraction data interface

  • MYSQL for memorizing data contained in the charts

  • PHP/JAVA for operator interface and verification/testing of the station charts.

Archive Management

Design and development of software for reading charts designed for an automatic archiving process based on e information contained in the chart folders Support instruments have also been developed in order to identify inconsistencies in archived information
